Qur'an Connected - Our Purpose[]

Qur'an Connected is designed to be an inspirational source for all those who are English-speaking and wish to learn about the Qur'an. Qur'an Connected is designed to overcome many of the obstacles of traditional Islamic teaching for English-speakers by:

  • Linking to articles, audio, video, and websites that are primarily in English;
  • Connecting individual verses, full chapters, and the entire Qur'an to authoritative multimedia from English-fluent scholars;
  • Removing the "alien" feel of Islam for English-only speakers by focusing on sound English translations of the Qur'an;
  • Attracting a wide audience by including articles, audio, video, webcasts, blogs, and other social media that teaches about the Qur'an;
  • Maintaining an authoritative stance by focusing on scholar's work, but avoiding overly-complicating or "dry" media.

The Organizational Goal of Qur'an Connected[]

Each chapter of the Qur'an should have a page containing:

  • An introduction which provides details on the name and themes of the Qur'an as well as major lessons;
  • The content of the chapter in English using the M.H. Shakir translation found here ;
  • A link immediately following the English to a link containing the Arabic and recitation found here;
  • A section containing interest articles on the chapter as a whole;
  • A section containing audio multimedia on the chapter as a whole;
  • A section containing video multimedia as a whole.

Each verse in the chapter shall be linked to a page about the verse itself. These verse pages shall contain:

  • The content of the verse in English using the M.H. Shakir Translation found here ;
  • A link immediately following the English to a link containing the Arabic and recitation found here;
  • A section containing interest articles that reference or are about the verse;
  • A section containing audio multimedia that reference or are about the verse ( either linked to the min:sec the verse is referenced or with the min:sec annotated);
  • A section containing video multimedia that references or are about the verse (either linked to the min:sec the verse is referenced or with the min:sec annotated).

Here is what cannot be included:

  • NO links to pure hadith or tasfir without a modern English scholar's explanation.
  • NO links to pieces that are not primarily in English or are otherwise overburdened by too much non-English speaking and recitation;
  • NO links to recitations alone outside of the recitation already available on quran.com;
  • NO links to multimedia that has no authoritative source (Youtube videos by random contributors, etc.)
  • NO personal commentary, including "editorializing" the link to the material with "Mash'allah!" or any other exclamation.

Here is some basic etiquitte:

  • Keep each page clean and easy to navigate. No section should have more than a couple links.
  • Keep the pages as uniform as physically possible.
  • This is NOT a place to debate fiqh.
